Who's
the cool dude?

In
the mid seventies Clive and a friend started racing for Evesham
in an Anglia 105E (Class 3). His No was E50 used today by Ray
Corbett. John and Mark went to watch his first race, the car
went like stink with its big wide slicks and they both returned
home with ideas and dreams of grassin' themselves. Not before
long they each had their own Autograss cars. Laurence was to
join the grassin' flock later and not to be left out Alf decided
if you can't beat 'em join 'em.

|
One
of many memorable grassin moments for the Copes was the 1979
Nationals at Yorkshire. Alf and Laurence made the finals, Alf
leapt in front off the line - steaming down the straight when
the car started missing, Laurence flew past and after a brilliant
bit of driving became National Champion.
|
|
Unfortunately
Alf had power washed the car off the day before - spruce it up
for the
Nationals - but he didn't dry the distributor cap. Now there's
a moral there somewhere
like "if it ain't bust - don't fix it".
